Employee Spotlight | Q&A

Featuring: Ryan Daly - Manager

Ryan has worked at StaffHost Europe since the end of 2017. When Ryan joined us, he was a trainee consultant with no prior recruitment experience. Since joining us and learning the skills required to become a successful recruiter (as well as learning and understanding his markets) Ryan has had a very successful journey in his career so far. Let’s get a little insight into one of our top billers, with a 10 question quick-fire round.

1. What job did you have before joining StaffHost Europe?

A: “Skilled Labourer” Although I wasn’t very skilled!

2. What challenges did you initially face when you started working here?

A: Learning the skills to be a good consultant and understanding your market place.

3. What do you find most rewarding about your role?

A: You can get out exactly what you put in!

4. What advice would you give to a Junior Recruitment Consultant?

A: Come in hungry, driven and busy. These are all attributes you are going to have to keep hold of. Recruitment is a rollercoaster, don’t dwell on the losses because you will soon be celebrating a win.

5. What things do you enjoy outside of work?

A: Coffee, football, fitness and alcoholism!

6. What inspires you?

A: A bright and prosperous future.

7. If you won £2 million on the lottery, what would you do with it?

A:   Invest, share and overindulge.

8. If you had to wear one set of clothes for the rest of your life, what would you wear?

A: A 3 piece, you can never be over dressed.

9. You can only pick one… so, what’s your all-time favourite song?

A: Wonderwall – Oasis.

10. If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

A: Hmm, I've got 3... What Happens after death? Who shot Kennedy? What came first, the chicken or the egg?

"Recruitment is proactive by nature and that ripples through StaffHost, you have to be willing to put in the work and in turn you are given untold support, training and development opportunity. Your efforts are noticed and you will always be justly rewarded for them on a personal and professional level. Incentive is a big word in this business and you will be jet setting and fine dining when you hit them.. I was supported massively and given the right tools to grow, and for my efforts I was rewarded with promotion from Trainee Consultant to Manager in my first two years. You will always get out what you put in!" - Ryan Daly

What do our employees find most rewarding about their role?

Client and candidate satisfaction is the top priority for our consultants. It’s challenging to negotiate and secure the best candidates for our clients, as is securing the best package for our candidates – but it certainly is rewarding when we’re helping to change and improve people’s lives.

What is the working environment like?

We have a large, clean, open-plan office. Whilst everyone is focused on their work, we realise there needs to be a bit of a balance to make the days more enjoyable – this is where a good sense of humour will always come in handy! Additionally, we have areas for our staff to relax at lunch time and make use of the pool table,  table football, putting green and TV/games console.

What rewards (financial/non-financial) could I expect?

We pay a competitive base salary with uncapped commission payments. Additional incentives include Presidents Club (our annual international winner’s trip), Breakfast Club (for those above target each month) and individual and team-based incentives. In addition to our rewards, we offer a full and flexible benefits package.

How is performance measured and how often is it reviewed?

We know that our success is driven through a combination of the right activities and the right behaviours.

Everyone at StaffHost has a set of goals and key performance indicators related to the business in which they work. Our annual appraisals and mid-year reviews give the opportunity to discuss long-term career and development plans.

What training is given in the first few months?

Your first few months of training will cover off the use of our database, LinkedIn Recruiter and role specific modules to ensure you’re fully equipped with all the knowledge you need to hit the ground running! Beyond your first few months, continuous training will be given to our consultants to help further your knowledge, stay up to date with the latest information and occasionally refresh and fine-tune any areas you feel you need attention or support with.

What can I expect after attending an interview?

We will get in touch within a couple of days to confirm whether or not you have been successful and to provide you with relevant feedback. If your first interview is a success, you’ll be invited back for a second interview where you will be asked to put a short presentation together.
