Employee Spotlight: Q&A with Ryan Daly

Ryan Daly (Silent Disco)

Ryan has worked at StaffHost Europe since the end of 2017. When Ryan joined us, he was a trainee consultant with no prior recruitment experience.

Since joining us and learning the skills required to become a successful recruiter (as well as learning and understanding his markets) Ryan has had a very successful journey in his career so far.

Let’s get a little insight into one of our top billers, with a 10 question, quick-fire round.

1. What job did you have before joining StaffHost Europe?

Ryan: “Skilled Labourer” Although I wasn’t very skilled!

2. What challenges did you initially face when you started working here?

Ryan: Learning the skills to be a good consultant and understanding your market place.

3. What do you find most rewarding about your role?

Ryan: You can get out exactly what you put in!

4. What advice would you give to a Junior Recruitment Consultant?

Ryan: Come in hungry, driven and busy. These are all attributes you are going to have to keep hold of. Recruitment is a rollercoaster, don’t dwell on the losses because you will soon be celebrating a win.

5. What things do you enjoy outside of work?

Ryan: Coffee, football, fitness and alcohol!

6. What inspires you?

Ryan: A bright and prosperous future.

7. If you won £2 million on the lottery, what would you do with it?

Ryan: Invest, share and overindulge!

8. If you had to wear one set of clothes for the rest of your life, what would you wear?

Ryan: A 3 piece, you can never be too over dressed.

9. You can only pick one… so, what’s your all-time favourite song?

Ryan: Wonderwall – Oasis.

10. If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

Ryan: Hmm, I've got 3... what happens after death? Who shot Kennedy? What came first, the chicken or the egg?

"Recruitment is proactive by nature and that ripples through StaffHost, you have to be willing to put in the work and in turn you are given untold support, training and development opportunity. Your efforts are noticed and you will always be justly rewarded for them on a personal and professional level. Incentive is a big word in this business and you will be jet setting and fine dining when you hit them. I was supported massively and given the right tools to grow, and for my efforts I was rewarded with promotions from Trainee Consultant to Manager in my first two years. You will always get out what you put in!" Ryan Daly

8 Reasons Why Recruitment is a Fantastic Career Choice:

If you're considering a career in recruitment, there are few better places to start your journey than at StaffHost Europe - of course, if you're already at senior level, then there are few better places to continue your career. Upon joining the business, you will have the opportunity to work in one of our specialist teams, recruiting IT professionals across Europe.

1. You have lots of independence:

Yes, you'll have set targets to achieve, but how you achieve them is pretty much up to you. You'll be equipped with the most up-to-date training skills and tools, but autonomy and innovation are also available for you to utilise as you see neccessary!

2. There's great money to be made:

You really are in control of how much money you can earn, and those commission cheques can be quite substantial in a good month - that's on top of your base salary too! It really is true that the more you put in, the more you get out. If you're hungry and dedicated, you can have a very lucrative career - a number of our consultants who are in their mid-twenties already own houses!

3. Offering life changing help:

There's no denying our lives revolve around our job or career - we spend more time at work than we do at home, and the money we go to work to earn, dictates the lifestyle that we can afford to live right now (and when we retire). There's a good chance that most of your friends will have been met through work too, so changing jobs is a big deal.

When you place a candidate in their dream job, and guide them through the process with advice and tips along the way, it's a great feeling to know how happy they are when they succeed. If you built a good relationship with the candidate, there's every chance they will come back to collaborate when their next career move is due too.

4. Meeting new people & building a network:

You're going to be speaking to new people on a daily basis, but the most interesting part is that the majority of our business is carried out across Europe, so you will be learning lots about cultural differences.

This does however mean that your communication is most likely limited to phone calls, skype and emails, but there will also be times when you and your team will travel abroad for a conference or event - these will be full of people in your network, but also full of people not yet in your network - this is your time to impress them with your knowlede and charm!

5. Your competitive side:

If you're a recruitment consultant, the chances are that you're also a fairly competitive individual, by nature. You need to constantly innovate your strategy and try out new and interesting ways to grab the attention of hard-to-find candidates - your competition will be recruiters from other companies, other companies your candidate might prefer to work for over the one you're pitching to them, as well as your teams mates AND the other teams at StaffHost Europe... the leader board comes with a lot of perks along your journey to the top!

6. Improving clients' bussiness:

Employees are at the heart of any good businesses success. If you hire someone for your client who goes on to become an incredible employee, then your client is going to be extremely grateful - there’s no denying that’s a great feeling!

7. Your colleagues:

It’s rare to meet a recruiter who’s a shrinking violet, which means a career in recruitment guarantees you an office full of outgoing, chatty colleagues. It’s a great environment to meet likeminded, fun people, so you'll easily make great friends that ensure every workday (and work night out) is a blast.

Your colleagues at StaffHost Europe will also have your back, even if you're in direct competition with them, we help each other out for the greater good of the company's success!

8. Recruitment keeps you on your toes:

Most people wouldn't describe their job to you as exciting. But, recruiting is one of the most exciting and fast-paced industries to work in and there's always something going on to keep your adrenaline flowing!
